2008 Texas Aviat Husky Fly-In
Cedar Mills, Texas
October 10-12, 2007

I am happy to announce that our plans for the 3rd Annual Texas (formerly known as the Fredericksburg) Fly-In have been tentatively finalized.

The input I got from our last outing was that Fredericksburg was fun for a couple of years but it was time for a change. There also a lot of good reasons to move it later in the year, including conflicts with Spring break, better wx, Sun n Fun, the now earlier date of Root Ranch and a really good one for our chosen location- their restaurant got flooded and won't open until next May). So....

The 2008 Husky Fly-In will be held at Cedar Mills Marina, Texas (3T0), about 60 miles north of DFW and DAL on Lake Texoma the weekend of October 10-12, 2008. These poor folks were literally under water this past June from the biblical floods that N. Texas received but have now recovered- except for the restaurant. They are planning to build a new one, which should be finished in plenty of time for our arrival.

Cedar Mills has a beautiful, slightly sloping, manicured 3000' grass strip that abuts the lake, with some tiedowns already located there. If you have FlyTies or the like- no hangars are available- please bring them as there aren't enough tiedowns for everybody. There are plenty of cottages near the marina and 4 duplex cottage units on the grass strip. Additionally, there are campground spots for those of you who wish not for a roof over your head. Here's a link to their website:

The other exciting piece of news that I have to share is that our guest speaker for Saturday night will be Stu Horn, President of Aviat Aircraft.

Cedar Mills has hosted a Floatplane Fly-In every October (cancelled for '07, no date conflict for '08) with hundreds of attendees and a temporary tower, so they're used to dealing with WAY more airplanes that we'll have.

I've put all 18 cottage units available on hold. Please make your reservations directly by calling (903) 523-4222, ext. 221. Let them know you are with the Husky group.

For those of you who'd like to take in a little Striper fishing, they have a guide service there and I think that sounds like a great plan for Friday (so arrive Thursday PM). If we have enough takers, I believe there might be some prizes involved...

Saturday's Lunch Fly-Out will be a short 18 mile trip to McGehee Catfish Restaurant Airport (T40)- http://www.airnav.com/airport/T40 A fun, roller-coaster-like 2400' grass strip, great view, all the delicious catfish you can eat, your airplane a few short steps away- what could be better? We'll have our program on Saturday night at the Cedar Mills Lodge, then depart on Sunday.

Hopefully we can get the same kind of fantastic weather for next fall as this one, because this fall has been as spectacularly good as this spring was bad.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'll let the collective group know what the cost will be to cover Lodge rental and catered dinner in mid-2008.

If you're flying "big iron" and 3000' of grass gets your palms sweaty, Grayson County Airport (GYI) is only 10 miles by air and has 9000' of asphalt (harrumph). It also is the closest gas and hangar space to Cedar Mills.

If you'd like to email me at taylorjh@aol.com that you think you're coming and have made reservations, I would appreciate it

Please visit this website in mid-2008 for more updates on the 3rd Annual Texas Husky Fly-In!

Hope to see you there!
